IT & Software Finance for Law Firms & Professional Practices
The systems the practice
runs on.
A new case or practice management system, a move to the cloud, a hardware refresh or a cyber security upgrade can all land as one large bill. Technology finance spreads the cost so the investment doesn’t drain working capital.

Quick answer
Can a law firm or accountancy practice finance a new IT system?
Yes. Practice IT finance can fund case and practice management systems, cloud migration, hardware, cyber security and multi-year licences, including implementation and data migration. Hardware is often funded by hire purchase or leasing, and software by a business loan or specialist technology facility. We search the market for lenders who will fund the whole project.
The pressure
Technology is now a core cost of practice.
Law firms, accountancy practices and other professional firms rely on their systems for everything from time recording and billing to client onboarding and document management. Replacing a system is rarely just the licence: there is data migration, training, integration with other software and often new hardware at the same time.
Security expectations keep rising too. Insurers, regulators and clients increasingly expect firms to show how they protect client data and money, and the upgrades that follow can be substantial.
What can be financed
What it can cover.
“I will recommend them to other business owners in my network looking for funding in future.”
- 01 Case and practice management systems Licences, implementation and data migration.
- 02 Cloud migration Moving servers, documents and email to hosted services.
- 03 Hardware refreshes Laptops, workstations, servers and telephony.
- 04 Cyber security Security tools, monitoring and network upgrades.
- 05 Multi-year licences Software paid for up front.
- 06 Accounting, tax and booking software Practice software and automation.
How it’s often structured
Structured around the practice.
Hardware is often funded through hire purchase or leasing over its expected working life. Software, implementation and training, sometimes called soft costs, are funded by fewer lenders, so a business loan or a specialist technology finance facility may suit them better. Some suppliers offer their own payment plans, which are worth comparing.
Where a project combines several costs, it can make sense to fund the hardware and the software separately so each is matched to its own life. Our guide to hire purchase, leasing or a loan explains the differences. Clinical and specialist equipment is covered under equipment finance.

Questions
What firms usually ask.
Can software be financed, or only hardware?
Both, though fewer lenders fund software and services on their own because they have little resale value. They are often funded as part of a wider package or through a business loan. We look for lenders who will fund the whole project, including implementation.
In our clients’ words
“We were looking for finance for new equipment. Simon is excellent and objective-driven, without the horrendous form filling of your usual high street bank. The whole thing took just a few days.”
